Five Must See Oahu Attractions

If you are planning a Hawaii vacation be sure to consider Oahu’s attractions. Even though you can check out these activities after you arrive on the island, there are benefits to familiarizing yourself with planning ahead, even before you leave for your trip.

Two of these benefits is budgeting your time and money so that you have enough of both to enjoy all the Oahu attractions.  Determining what your sightseeing will cost and how long each attraction will take to fully enjoy can help make your trip memorable.

Here is a summary of five Oahu attractions: the Iolani Palace, the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve, the North Shore of Oahu, Pearl Harbor, and the Diamond Head State Monument.  There are many other great attractions in Hawaii, but seeing these will help you really enjoy your Hawaii vacation.

1. Pearl Harbor

Pearl Harbor is a National Historic Landmark.  In fact, is it currently the only naval base that has been designed as one in the United States.  The attack on Pearl Harbor, on December 7, 1941, forever changed America.  Whether you are looking to see the site for yourself, pay tribute to those who lost their lives, or do both, this is a must see attraction for you.

While visiting Pearl Harbor, you can take a guided tour through the Battleship Mississippi Memorial, Visit the USS Okalahoma Memorial, as well as the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum and Park.

2. The North Shore of Oahu

If you surf or even if you just enjoy watching surfers, then the North Shore of Oahu is a must visit for you.  Did you know that many travel websites claim that the North Shore of Oahu is home to some of the best surfing conditions in the world?  Experienced surfers flock to the shores of local beaches and you may even be able to watch professional surfers!

But the North Shore of Oahu has more to offer than just surfing.  There is also swimming, sunbathing, picnicking, and other beach-related activities.

3. Diamond Head State Monument

The Diamond Head moment, in Waikiki, is one of Hawaii's most well known landmarks.

But be aware that this Oahu attraction, even though it is very popular, isn't right for everyone.  A significant hike is required to get to the crater.  While this hike is perfect for anyone looking for adventure, it may be too strenuous for some people because it includes almost two hundred steps and underground tunnels.

4. Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve

If you love snorkeling, the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve, located in southern Oahu, is a must visit.  It is known as the perfect destination for snorkeling.  The bay is home to colorful tropical fish, coral reefs, and clear water.

While most children and teenagers are welcome to snorkel, they should be strong swimmers first.  Due to it being a nature preserve, all visitors, both adults and children, are reminded to be cautious when around the water to keep the area as natural and as beautiful as ever.

5. The Iolani Palace

The Iolani Palace is in Honolulu and is the only official residence of royalty in the United States.  This, by itself, makes the Iolani Palace a wonderful attraction and a must visit.

When visiting the Iolani Palace, there is so much for you to do and see.  Depending on the day of your visit, you can shop the Palace shop, listen to band concerts, or take a guided tour.
